1- phenyl -2- nitropropene, also known as β-methyl-β-nitrostyrene(MNS), is formed by Henry reaction of aromatic aldehyde and nitropropene and then condensation. MNS is an important synthetic intermediate. Due to the influence of nitro group with strong electron-withdrawing group, the conjugated double bond is polarized, which is easy to react with nucleophiles. In addition, MNS can be transformed into various functional groups by different methods to obtain different types of compounds, such as amines, hydroxylamines, nitriles, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and so on. MNS also has obvious anti-tumor and bactericidal effects. Generally speaking, the antibacterial effect on Gram-positive bacteria is better than that on Gram-negative bacteria.
